The Initial Proposal to work with Comune di Anzio in order to signpost important battlefield locations in the beachhead area is work in progress. |
We are looking into the possibility of publishing new educational material about the Anzio beachhead, for free distribution to schools, colleges, universities and libraries in the European Union and overseas. |
20% of net income received by Anzio Tours goes straight back into the business of running and maintaining tours and excursions to the beachhead from Rome. 80% net is held in a trust fund to finance our initiative of Local Awareness and wider education. |

Railguns in the Alban Hills / From late January to May, the beachhead was under constant aerial and artillery bombardment, made worse by two Krupp K5(E) heavy railway guns hidden away in tunnels between today's Marino and Albano Laziale stations. Their 283 mm, 255 kg shells could travel 45 kilometres at c. 1,120 m/s, causing death and destruction on the ground between Nettuno and Campoleone. 'Robert' and 'Leopold', known as 'Anzio Annie' and 'Anzio Express' to the Allies, fired 15 rounds every hour day and night. Huge 750 kg shells were also fired at the beachhead. / |
