'ON THIS SITE THOUSANDS OF MEN FOUGHT AND DIED' |
Our Tour Itinerary connects combat events which occurred between Peter Beach and the battlefields due west of Campo di Carne in Spring 1944. You can book our tour by going to our Book Online page. |
A tour with options is managed within the same time frame as our Tour Itinerary, so the cost is the same too. If you already have your own itinerary, perhaps following in the footsteps of a relative who fought at Anzio, let us know the details and we'll arrange everything for you at this end in good time. We conduct tours of the Anzio beachhead every day excluding December 22nd - 30th. |
It is important to note that the Anzio beachhead area spanned 100 square kilometres and included several important strategic towns. Campoleone, Latina (Littoria), Cisterna, Aprilia (Carroceto), Cori, Frosinone, Velletri, the Pontine Marshes and several dozen sites of historical importance along the line of the former Mussolini Canal, are all viable tour options. The entire beachhead area proffers enough scope for tour customization in the field for anyone interested in the history of Anzio in 1944. |

World at War / Troops from Poland, France, Greece, Canada, South Africa, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, India and the Italian Resistance supported British and American forces in the beachhead area. Ghurkas roamed German positions by night, decapitating exhausted and unwary men. Further east of the Anzio and Nettuno beachhead, Free French and French Moroccan Goumiers were in action with British XIII Corps at Rapido bridgeheads in the Liri Valley, which broke the Gustav Line and opened Route 6 to Rome. In the immediate aftermath, Goumiers raped their way through villages south of the Alban Hills. /
